Zinfandels
from
Alexander Valley Vineyards

Join us this coming Saturday and try some wines from Alexander Valley Vineyards. This family-owned and operated winery is located in the heart of Sonoma’s Alexander Valley where they practice sustainable techniques in the vineyard and use solar power to operate the winery. They make a wide variety of wines and Saturday we will be pouring their Zins. Stewart Vandenberg a Zinfandel grower for the winery is in town for ZAP and will be here to show off and talk about the wines. We’ll be pouring:

2006 Temptation Zin   $12

92% Zinfandel, & 8% Sangiovese fruit from a blend of Alexander, Dry Creek Valley and Solano County vineyards. The Temptation is aged in American oak for 10 months before bottling. It is fruit forward and easy with playful flavors of Bing cherries, black cherries, white pepper and ginger.

2007 Sin Zin   $15

100% Zinfandel -- all Alexander Valley fruit. The Sin is aged for 10 months in a mix of French and American oak before bottling. The 2007 is a classic Alexander Valley Zinfandel with generous aromas of black cherries, blueberries, vanilla and spice, and hefty flavors of cherries and plums. Sin as you know, is lush and supple.

2006 Redemption Zin   $20

100% single vineyard Zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley. The Redemption spends 14 months in French and American oak. The wine is big and powerful with substantial blackberry and plum flavors along with a healthy dose of black pepper and subtle notes of orange peel and glycerin.

2006 Estate Syrah   $15

98% Syrah, & 2% Viognier from Alexander Valley’s own vineyards. The Estate has an expressive nose of blackberry, black cherry and violets, along with flavors of blackberries and rich cassis, along with hints of black licorice, menthol and allspice. You’re right. It isn’t a Zinfandel, but we have liked past vintages of their Syrah so much that we had to throw it in the mix.

2005 Alexander School Old Vine Zinfandel   $40

100% Zinfandel from 50 year old vines, aged for 22 months in American oak. Each craggy vine only produces a handful of grape clusters. But because the yields are so low, there’s an incredible intensity to the fruit. A mild growing season in 2005 meant the grapes stayed on the vine longer than usual, developing layers of plum, cocoa, cola accented by a bit of black pepper. This Old Vine exhibits a lot of concentration. Don’t miss your chance to try it.
