Animale
Spring Releases

Stop by this coming Saturday to try the new releases from ANIMALE.  From this boutique winery located in Deep Upper Ballard, wine maker Matt Gubitosa produces unusual Washington reds -- dense, dark, full-flavored and full-bodied, exhibiting enchanting fruit aromas, jammy, spicy flavors, and varietal character. Animale de-emphasizes the role of new oak barrels which lets the fruit show through.  All the wines are unfiltered and unfined which adds richness and texture to their body. Past Animale wines have received glowing reviews from Seattle Times as well as Parkers Wine Advocate.  The production of all these wines is very limited, so if you are a fan, now is the time to snap them up.  Matt will be on hand to explain his tasting notes.

2006 Grenache $22
79% Grenache, 12% Petite Sirah, & 9% Syrah
This Grenache is a wine of complexity and elegance, featuring aromas of strawberries, dried spices, exotic herbs, and chocolate, flavors of candied fruit with hints of fresh-ground peppercorns, and a nearly-syrupy texture.

2006 Petite Sirah   $24
93% Petite Sirah, 7% Sirah
Iridescent purple-black color, aromas of fresh blackberries and berry jam, with barely perceptible nuances of okra, menthol, bubble gum, and buttered popcorn; on the palate, intriguing flavors of cherries and raspberries, with hints of mace, nutmeg, mushrooms and lemon crystals; a very firm and long finish will ensure a good match with robust cuisine or a long life in the cellar.

2006 Zinfandel $22
87% Zinfandel, 8% Syrah, 3% Grenache, 2% Petite Sirah
A full-bodied wine with complex aromas of berries, raisins, and hints of fresh sliced cucumber and smoke, and flavors of sweet-tart cherry candy, strawberries, peaches, and fresh-picked butter lettuce, all followed by a lingering but soft finish.

2005 Cabernet Sauvignon, $26
90% Cabernet Sauvignon & 10% Merlot
The Animale Cab Sauv. is complex with aromas of roasted red peppers, strawberries, and hints of freshly-baked cherry pie; a full-bodied texture with flavors of cocoa, cherries, earth and dried herbs, along with ample structure and vibrant acidity. While technically not a new release, The '05 Cab is a fortunate chance to see how Matt’s wine develops with a year’s age on it. The wine was picked by Paul Gregutt of the Seattle Times as one of the Top 100 Washington Wines in 2007.

2006 Syrah, $25
100% Syrah
Near-black color and intense perfume of fresh mixed berries, with hints of licorice candy, vanilla, and even soy; a voluptuously full, thick and syrupy body, with flavors of berry jam and fresh plums, and intriguing and complex accents of verbena, ginger root, mint, black olive, bacon, and caramel.
