New Arrivals from Spain
Chateau St. Martin

Come join us this Saturday and try some Spanish wines just off the boat and direct imported into Seattle for the first time. Chateau St. Martin, a local importer has picked up these new wines and brings them direct to us at good prices. Hans Giner will be on hand to tell you more about them, but the real proof is in the glass. Come see for yourself.

2005 Terrrai, Garnacha, Cariñena $9
From one of the oldest DO’s in Spain (where Carignane originated) this Grencahe-based wine is a Spanish rendition of a typical Côtes-du-Rhône. The wine is cherry colored, with a bouquet of red fruit, raspberries. It has a full-bodied structure, with well balanced acidy and a long finish.

2005 Torre de Barreda, Tierra de Castilla, $14
An hour south of Madrid, Juan and Inez de la Barreda have a 350 hectare estate that used to produce bulk wines. Then Juan de la Barreda joined up with George Pauli of Château Gruaud-Larose and started producing a delicious full-flavored red made from old vine Cencibel (Tempranillo). The Torre de Barreda has an amazing concentration of red fruits, with a good backbone of tannin and acidity.

2001Alesanco Reserva, Rioja $17
This Reserva is 100% tempranillo, aged in oak for 16 months. The wine is amazingly floral for a Rioja with smooth tannins and a complex well-balanced palate of ripe red fruits and toasted hazelnuts.

2004 Reyes de Aragon, Cepas Viejas, Calatayud $20
Garnet pillory very intense meniscus alive. Aroma de buena intensidad, sobresaliendo las notas tostadas de la madera, que dan paso a un fondo de fruta negra. Aroma of good intensity, especially the notes of toasted wood, which gave way to a depth of black fruit. En boca es de cuerpo medio, con acidez equilibrada, frutosidad un poco justo y un final correcto, un punto tánico. In mouth is the body means, with balanced acidity, fruity and just a little right end, a point tannic. Don’t you love auto-translation. Grenache based, the Reyes is like a Spanish Gigondas, a bit richer and a lot going on.

2003 Bohorquez, Ribera del Duero, $30
Big dark fruit with rich full flavors of chocolate and spice. The Bohorquez is intense with a tasty, complex body, and velvety, refined and firm tannins. Beautifully made, the wine is big without being overbearing.
