| 2005 Lodmell, Estate Merlot, Walla Walla $33 |
Lodmell Vineyards, a 30 acre Estate Vineyard on the lower Snake River, sells grapes to some of the most prestigious wine makers in the Walla Walla Valley. And like a few others, Andrew Lodmell branched out from growing great grapes into making great wine. The Lodmell Merlot shows aromas of violet and black pepper, and flavors of black currant, ripe plum and cherry on the palate. Aged for thirty months prior to bottling, densely packed, with a heavy structure and near-black hue, this Merlot easily succeeds at capturing the variety's opulent style. A perfect match for pepper encrusted steak, pork tenderloin in a plum sauce, elk medallions, or a spring lamb seasoned in rosemary. |
| 2004 Willis Hall, Syrah, Columbia Valley - $24 |
From his winery in Marysville, owner and winemaker John Bell crafts his wines in the traditional, old-world method. John was a Boeing engineer for 31 years before he sunk his savings into Willis Hall. The Columbia Valley Syrah was aged for 21 months in one year old French barrels before bottling. It has won several awards including making Seattle Metropolitan Magazine top 100 NW wine list. The wine is spicy, dark and rich with an exacting integration between the oak and the textures and flavors of the fruit. |
