Maryhill Winery in Washington

Maryhill makes a wider selection of wines than most Washington wineries but the array doesn’t seem to diminish the quality. Located in Goldendale on the Columbia River, they are about as close to Oregon as you can be without standing in water. The microclimate of the Columbia River Gorge adds a unique variety to the grapes. But whether it’s the region or their rigor, Maryhill consistently makes good, solid, high quality wine and to top it off they sell it at great prices. Come join us this coming Saturday and check out these offerings.

2005 Chardonnay $10
A wonderful combination of light oak and crisp acidity round out the presence of caramel apple and hazelnuts, with just a touch of rose petals on the nose. Find how splendid, simple can be.

2006 Pinot Gris $10
This summer favorite that will tempt your senses with lively notes of soft apple, peach and pear. On the palate the peach becomes deeper with rich flavors of nectarine and a subtle touch of pineapple, leading to a cleansing apple finish with a trace of citrus. The Gris is crisp and full enough to hold its own among the Oregon and Italian versions.

2004 Sangiovese $15

A northwest slant on this traditional Tuscan grape, the Sangiovese is a perfect food wine with a clean herbaceous aroma tinged with tart cherry and spicy cinnamon. The first sip reveals deeper cherry notes and rich plum characteristics. The finish is bright and palate cleansing with just a hint of oak to complement the vibrant acidity that pairs so well with tomato based dishes.

2005 Winemaker’s Blend $11

Maryhill's Winemaker's Blend is year after year an award winning and popular favorite. A combination of 40% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Syrah and 6% Cabernet Franc creates a Bordeaux blend with a twist. The ruby red wine sparks with chocolate and cherry aromas with an elegant oak background. This wine has been a favorite at the shop for a long time now. If you haven’t tried it, you must. Hard to believe that it is only 11 bucks.

2005 Zinfandel $17

Maryhill’s Zinfandel is big and luscious with dark, broody licorice, black cherry preserves and dried currants. The peppery nose mingles on the palate with nutmeg, allspice and a touch of rich exotic Mijool dates, culminating in a long, lingering finish filled with smoky cedar, star anise and exotic spice tinged with dark cocoa bean. The wine easily rivals some higher priced Californians.
