Wines of the Italian Isles
Sardinia and Sicily
Winebow

Come join us this coming Saturday as we present wines from the Italian islands of Sicily and Sardinia. Imported by Leonardo LoCascio Selections, these wines are a nice counterfoil to their Tuscan brothers (they have been racking up high points with Parker as well). Lucine Pashaian of will be on hand to pour as we explore these Mediterranean Islands.

2005 Regaleali Le Rose di Regaleali IGT Sicilia   $10
Made from Nerello Mascalese grapes Le Rose is delicate and fruity with cherry, raspberry, blackberry, mulberry aromas and a clean cherry flavor with good acidity.

2005 Argiolas Costamolino Vermentino di Sardegna DOC   $12

Made from 100% Vermentino grown 625 feet above sea level, the Costamolino has an intense yet delicate bouquet with beautiful aromas of almonds, oranges, lemon, honey, apple skins, and a hint of tropical fruit. The Wine Advocate gave the Vermentino 91 points.

2004 Argiolas Perdera IGT Isola dei Nuraghi   $12
Made from 90% Monica, 5% Carignano and 5% Bovale Sardo. The Perdera is fermented in glass-lined cement tanks, then transferred to French oak barrels and aged for 5-6 months. With intense ruby red color typical of Monica, the Perdera is vibrant and rustic. The Wine Advocate describes it as “deep, rich, and chewy, with loads of peppery black cherry fruit intermixed with notions of Provencal herbs, roasted meats and earth. --90pts”

2005 Morgante Nero d'Avola IGT Sicilia   $15
Made from 100% Nero d'Avola, aged for 4 months in French barriques, the wine has intense aromas of vanilla and sweet spice. It is bursting with bright cherry fruit, balanced acidity and exotic spices. The Wine Advocate gave the Morgante 90 points and floridly effuses “It boasts a beautiful dense ruby/purple hue as well as aromas of scorched earth, black cherries, blackberries, charcoal, and graphite, full-bodied, powerful, pure flavors, and a long, heady finish.” Enough adjectives to please anybody.

2004 Morgante Don Antonio Nero d'Avola Riserva IGT Sicilia   $35

Made from 100% Nero d'Avola grown in 35 year old vineyards. The grapes remain in contact with the skins for 20-22 days before being aged in new barriques for 12 months. Scents of herbs and wild flowers permeate this rich and delicious wine. The Don Antonio is full of fruit and spicy tannins, ripe, and sweet black cherry and raspberry aromas, fragrant floral notes and round, supple flavors with melting tannins on the finish. Makes you thirsty!
