Spanish Sampler

Come joins us this coming Saturday to sample a great line up of mouthwatering wines from Spain.  These are all versatile food wines that go well with both big and little dishes.  No matter whats for dinner, youll find a match.  Better yet they wont break your budget.  Amanda Gerber will be on hand to tell you more about the wines and wet your appetite.

2005 Cosme Palacio White- Roja $15
The Viura grapes used in the Cosme Palacio are hand-picked and a portion whole-bunch pressed. The must is left to cold settle then racked into stainless steel tanks for fermentation. Before the end of fermentation, the wine is transferred to new French oak barrels and left with its fine yeast lees to add a little complexity. After six months, the wine is lightly filtered and bottled.  The Cosme Palacio is rich and long.  Notes of pineapple and citrus fruit fill the nose accompanied by gentle aromas of vanilla. The wine is perfect a variety of dishes, especially tapas.

2005 Valcantara, Garnacha $10
The Valcantara is made of Grenache from vineyards of more than 40 years old. Flavors of berries, cherries and leather carry from the nose to the palate. The wine is medium bodied and fruity, with rounded tannins.  The wine is ideal with any roasted or highly flavored meat dish, as well as a variety of tapas.

2005 Pago de Valdoneje, Bierzo - $14
Made with 100% Mencia grapes from their estate vineyards located in Valtuille de Abajo. The vines are anywhere from 50 to 100 years old, providing rich dark grapes that are full-bodied and robust.  This Pago de Valdoneje has a ruby red garnet color with medium intensity in the mid-palate and a interesting, slightly vegetal finish. Bright cherry fruit resounds while there are hints of spice and hay in the nose at the beginning. This Bierzo has good acidity making it perfect for food paring. Enjoy this before dinner or with a plate of charcuterie, or many tapas.

Glorioso 2004 Crianza, Rioja - $14
Made from 100% Tempranillo aged 14 months in French barrels, the Glorioso Crianza is round and balanced, with a nice mix of cherry, spice and leather on the bouquet. The palate comes across as totally fresh and zesty, with medium-bodied and smooth red fruits and vanilla combining with lovely warm soft tannins.   Classic Tempranillo, and of course good with tapas.

Pago de los Capellanes 2005 Joven, Ribera del Duero - $20

80%Tinto Fino (tempranillo), 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10%Merlot.

Smooth and soft with concentrated red fruit and a slight floral nose, this is a young wine that has elegance and complexity beyond its meager years. A Joven classification is used for young wines less than a Crianza and not necessarily aged in oak. Pago de los Capellanes ages their Tinto Roble for five months in medium toast French oak. The bodega and vineyards are located in the village of Pedrosa del Duero near Burgos in the heart of Spain's premier vine region.  The Capellanes Joven has an intense floral aroma and red forest fruit with subtle hints of vanilla, in the mouth, the texture is full, elegant, long lasting and velvety, a lovely and lingering finish.  Forget the tapas, just drink it.
