Summer Bargains |
Stop by this Saturday and sample some great summer values. While August hasn't been exactly sweltering in Seattle, by the weekend the weather should be good enough to once again enjoy wines suited to warmer temperatures. Even if you spent too much on your vacation, we pulled together a selection of wines that won't require the second mortgage. James Norton of Noble Wines will be pouring and talking about the wines. And if it gets too hot outside, we'll turn on the air conditioner.
Adami, Prosecco $13
The Adami has a creamy persistent cascade of bubbles, elegant scents of white wildflowers, minerals, and glazed almonds. The palate is dry but still generous with flavors of yellow cherries and tropical fruits, with the acidity keeping the flavors fresh and lively. Prosecco is perfect summer wine, and cheap enough to pop.
2005 Botromagno, Gravina $8
From Puglia, this delicious and crisp Italian white is blend of 60% Greco and 40% Malvasia. The Gravina has an intriguing floral-fruity nose, a deep medium body, and a firm acidic backbone with a long, clean finish. The Gravina has been tucked away in our Italian section for quite a while where it is a favorite of a few devotees, but we thought we'd show it off and blow its cover. A great deal at eight bucks.
2006 Tieffenbruner, Pinot Grigio delle Venezie $12
From the north east of Italy, this Pinot Grigio has apple and cream aromas and flavors. It is medium-bodied, with good acidity and a plenty of spicy minerality. A perfect thirst quencher in hot weather.
2006 Marques de Caceres, Rosado $8
This ripe rose is full of light red berry flavors. The spicy, strawberry, raspberry-cherry flavors come from a combination of Tempranillo and Grenache. Knock off a bottle before dinner or let it linger into the meal. It matches a wide range of food and hot weather..
2005 Di Majo Norante, Sangiovese $9
The Di Majo Norante offers pleasant aromas of plums with notes of vanillin and pepper that match its vibrant fruit flavors. The Wine Advocate gave the wine 90 pts and described it as, "an amazing display of strawberry and black cherry fruit intermixed with floral, new saddle leather, and earth notes. Aged in large wood foudres, it is a stunning example of Sangiovese.... This wine represents incredible value for the money." 10 pts for a dollar, not bad.

2005 Stonecap Syrah $10 |
A Washington syrah at a bargain price, the Stonecap is smooth and velvety with some hints of meat and smoke and lots of fruit. This wine is good by itself or with grilled meats, roasts, pasta with red sauces or hearty cheeses. It's Seattle, you know you always need a good chunky red.
