Bianco Rosso

Stop by the shop on Saturday and taste these diverse and delicious wines from Italy. There is nothing run of the mill about these wines. Brought to us local importer Bianco Rosso, these wines will surprise you with their quality and flavor. Put off the laundry until Sunday. Come and check them out.

2007 Pelissero, Le Nature Freiza   $10

From a great family-run winery in the Piedmont comes this truly distinct wine. Frezia is a dark red and fruity grape that Pelissero makes into a slightly sparkling wine. The bouquet is between winey and fruity, the flavor crisp and rich at the same time, and the effervescence is refreshing. Totally Unique!

2007 Toffoli, Vendiso   $13

100% Verdiso, an indigenous grape variety, cultivated on the hills of Refrontolo in Veneto. Although more widely grown in the past, it is now made only by a small number of niche producers who maintain the tradition with pride. Vendiso has fragrances of green apple and lemon, with a faint hint of apricot, overtones of fig leaves and a certain spiciness. The body is zesty with delicate fruited overtones and a pronounced freshness that cleans the palate.

2007 Terre Cortesi Moncaro, GEOS Rosso Piceno   $12

The Geos is a blend of 60% Montepulciano and 40% Sangiovese from certified organic grapes grown in Aquaviva Picenain the Marche. The wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks with a portion aged 3 months in large Slavonian oak casks. The wine is fresh with lots of rich dark fruity flavors and supple tannins.

2004 Conti Sertolo Salis, Valleina Superiore, Grumello   $21

The Grumello is 95% Nebbiolo with a small percentage of Merlot, Pinot Noir and the local grapes Rossola and Brugnola. The grapes are cultivated on the terraced slopes to the east of the town of Sondrio in Lombardy. In this area, over the years, the rock has been broken into grit, pebbles and chips. The greater smoothness of this soil can be recognized in the wine, which is distinguished by its refined flavor. After two years of aging in oaken casks, the power of the grape is expressed in an elegant blend of hazelnut, raspberry, vanilla and nutmeg. The Grumello will develop and become further refined over the next 8 to 10 years.

2006 Pelissero, Nebbiolo   $25

100% Nebbiolo made from younger vines that are waiting to become Barbaresco. The wine is aged in a mixture of small barrique and large oak casks that are blended together before bottling. The Pelissero has aromas of raspberries and strawberries that mix with firm tannins on the pallet and finish with a lingering finish and aftertaste.
