Pierre Chainier, Diamond Rosé d’Anjou AOC $10
From Grolleau, a local red grape grown near the South banks of the Aubance river, this rose is slow fermented at low temperatures to preserve the sweet aromas. It has a bright salmon color, and fruity and lively aromas. The freshness of the wine is balanced by the semi-dryness. Perfect for a warm afternoon.
2005 Château de la Roche, Touraine Sauvignon AOC $13
Dating back to the 15th century, the Château de la Roche towers above the right bank of the River Loire, 4km from Amboise: the royal town that was home to François I and Leonardo da Vinci. The exceptional flint clay soils are responsible for giving the Sauvignons their distinctive smoky taste. The vineyard is cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. The Touraine Sauvignon is aged sur lees, and goes great with charcuterie, grilled or smoked fish, as well as poultry. Bright yellow with aromas of ripe fruit and citrus, the wine is subtle and delicate on the palate.
2005 Château de la Roche, Touraine Sauvignon AOC Reserve $17
Fermented and matured in barrels on lees, the Reserve works as an aperitif, or with charcuterie, grilled or smoked fish, shellfish, white meat and goat cheeses. Pale yellow with subtle aromas revealing hints of ripe fruit (pear and peach). On the palate it is full-bodied and unctuous with a certain richness. Overall, the wine is harmonious and refreshing.
Pierre Chainier, Diamond Vouvray AOC $11.50
Located on the north bank of the Loire between Tours and Noizay, this Chenin Blanc grown on clay limestone soil, with vinification done in temperature controlled vats. The wine is ideal for fois gras, ripe cheeses or desserts. The Diamond is pale yellow with ripe fruit aromas, excellent minerality in the mouth and notes of pear and quince.
2004 Clos de Nouys, Vouvray Demi-Sec AOC $25
Located on Vouvray’s prime hillsides with a south to southwest aspect, the CLOS DE NOUYS estate is one of the oldest winemaking estates within the AOC with the Chenin Blanc vines averaging 35 years of age and the grapes are picked by hand. The wine is light yellow with green tinges and has aromas of acacia flower and fresh almonds. The Clos de Nouys strikes a balance between crispiness and full body. This wine calls for charcuterie, grilled fish, shellfish and roast poultry. Wine Spectaor gave it 91 points. Come give it a try.
