Bubbles
Sparkling Wine and Champagnes

Come join us this Saturday and try a great line up of sparkling wines for the holidays. We have bubbles from five countries on three continents, and something for every budget. The highlight of the tasting will be two grower estate Champagnes. Unlike the bigger, better known Champagne houses that purchase their grapes and make huge batches, these grower estates are run by families that own their own vineyards and produce small lots of complex and distinct wines. They’re incredible!  Mr. Bubble himself, James Norton will be on hand to pop the corks and tell you more.

2004 Paringa, Sparkling Shiraz $10
David Hickinbotham committed a substantial portion of the 2004 Paringa Shiraz harvest to this ultra-value Sparkling Shiraz. The juice is Paringa Shiraz. It’s dark, rich, juicy and full of fruit flavor and bubbles. It is gorgeous to look at, and surprisingly complex and stunning to drink. The wine is saturated, deep magenta-red with crisp, clean flavors of raspberry and blueberry fruit, and velvety tannins that go into a delightful full-flavored finish.

2003 Mont Marcal, Cava Reserve $12
Made from native Parellada, Macabeo, and Xarel-lo grapes in the Penedes region in Spain, the Mont Marcal is zesty, fresh and full of fruit while maintaining finesse and character. The aromas are of green apple, pear and melon, the finish is firm, clean and refreshing.

Zefiro, Prosecco NV $13

From the Prosecco grape, the Zéfiro offers a subtle and elegant bouquet of citrus, peach and white flowers. The palate is inviting, fresh, delicate and dry with crisp acidity and round, harmonious flavors framing a long and intense finish.

Roederer Estate, Brut NV $22
60% Chardonnay, 40% Pinot Noir
A Californian sparkler from the famous French Champagne producer, Roederer Estate Brut is a solid example of domestic fizz. The Brut is rich and creamy with lemon curd, grapefruit, and pear flavors and a bright, refreshing finish.

Cuvée Pierre Moncuit-Delos Grand Cru, Blanc de Blancs NV $43
A small family producer, the Moncuits own fifteen hectares of vines surrounding Mesnil, mostly old vines that average thirty years of age. Their high percentage of old Chardonnay rootstock is a rarity in Champagne, where vines are routinely replanted when they reach twenty-five years of age. Harvest is by hand and the wines are aged in stainless steel tanks. The Moncuits avoid using wood, as they feel it gets in the way of the delicacy and minerality. These old vines convert the chalky soils of Le Mesnil into concentrated fruit aromas entwined with captivating minerality and ideal acidity. The chalk lurks beneath plenty of grapefruit and a hint of pineapple.

Barnaut Grand Cru, Grande Reserve NV $43
80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay
A fifth-generation family producer, Barnaut makes well aged Champagnes in the full-bodied style of Bouzy. The grapes are picked as late as possible for maximum ripeness and are hand sorted to remove any rotten or unripe grapes. The excellent Pinot Noir of the village’s Grand Cru Vineyards provides the backbone of the Grande Réserve. The wine has big toasty cocoa aromas and crisp pineapple citrus flavors. It is opulent and rich and perfectly balanced.
